Hi sam,
(hope you don't mind me calling you Sam?)
I am happy you like my book. i do have another book based on the same character, that comes out in August! it is called Model Incorporated. I wanted to show that you do not have to be like the girls on America's Next Top Model to make it big. i think i made it and i have been here, in the modeling world for 30 years.
i think there is a difference between making it in a flash and disappearing and making it and staying. most of the girls that i know that make it are strong business people. it seems to me, from my experience, that the girls who are crazy party people rarely make it. i mean there is the phenom now and again but on the whole, this is a business and i tried to portray it as such to give young women, like you, who want to come into this business, a leg up by telling what to somewhat expect.
i mean, i cannot tell you all that will happen in this business, it is an individual experience, but some guidelines, i think, can help you out!
remember, always try to take the HIGH ROAD-
all the best with your caeer-whatever you choose!

Hey! First I want to say I LOVED the book. I really felt like I got a better look at what the modeling world, and it's not all that you see on ANTM or anything. The book was a real eye opener for me, but encouraged me more to want to become a model. I liked at the end that you had the tips, and the Mac is a character people can relate to, especially me. Thank you for writing such a great book! Hope there are more coming! Love, Sam<3

Hey jennifer,
I am sorry, I must have missed your wonderful letter!!
I am so glad you liked the book!!
My agent says that I tell so many stories and make people laugh and she wanted to capture that in a book!
I, however, found that i wanted an opportunity to teach girls how to navigate the field.
Well, we combined the two ideas with "This Year's Model"
So, I am so glad you liked it and thank you for your Review!!!
All the best,
Carol Alt

Hi Katie,
I am sorry it has taken me so long to answer your letter.....
I am in Italy shooting a show and got a bit caught up in rehearsal etc.
I understand that you have a daughter who likes to entertain. I do not think that putting her in the John Powers School is such a bad thing. Especially if you see that it has helped her in the past couple of months.
However:
You must remember that i started my career at 18 years old. I had a normal childhood and schooling-i was even in the Army for a year thru ROTC!
When i started to model, i was pretty much able to go it on my own and i had pretty much developed my personality.
Please, Please, Please! Keep your eye on your young daughter. The reason I wrote the fiction book on modeling (This Year's Model) was to try to help young girls to successfully navigate the shark infested waters by keeping a moral compass.....Now, OK, I know that many professions have sharks in their waters, but so few professions have such young seekers.
Give her all the support you can and make sure she knows that if she decides to do something else, you will support that, too!
My dad told me that i could "always come home and it would not be looked at as a failure-just an experience"
and that gave me the strength to say "no" to some things that i felt were "iffy"!
Many time girls say "OK" to things even if they know it might be iffy because they hope it will pay off big.
Remember, that a career is like a brick wall.....every little brick adds to the strength of that wall.
there is no one BIG BRICK that will make a career. a missed opportunity can not destroy a career- but seizing on the wrong opportunity can be the worst!!
So choose wisely for your daughter and love her and support her-
and teach her well.....
I wish you and your daughter all the best,
Carol Alt

Maureen,
I know this is a bit late because the cover model was already picked by our online voting process....
But i wanted to personally thank you for your letter and your interest.
I wish you all the best with your future career....
if you have any questions, don't hesitate to write me again....
All the best,
Carol Alt
PS if you do write me again, make sure you write that I told you to write me so that you get published.....it would be so terrible if you wrote with a question and your letter was not forwarded to me!!
