Good afternoon Carol. My daughter Crystal who is only 11 yrs. old is told all of the time how beautiful she is.
Crystal does want to get into the modeling and entertainment industry, but living in Idaho, there is not much here. What can you recommend for us to help get Crystal noticed?
I would love to hear back from you when you get a moment. Crystal definately knows who you are. My husband, son & I met you about 12 years ago at Richard Karns celebrity golf tourn. at Echo Falls Country Club in Seattle. I worked at Echo Falls for 10 1/2 years before we moved to Idaho. I volunteered my time the next couple of years
Thank you for your time.

p.s. I would love to email you pictures of Crystal one day. She is an amazing girl who loves volunteering and excelling in school. She is a straight “A” student.

Hi Tammy,
I am sorry i did not see this section of questions. every time i go online i see another section that escaped me…..
i do try to be diligent!
anyway, i think the best way to do this without having to travel is to send your daughter’s photos out.
i would call the agencies you are interested in and ask them if they have a children’s division and who runs it.
once you have a name, then send the photos of your daughter with a letter stating why you sent a letter instead of coming in person.
I would keep the letter short and sweet. I do recommend getting a name of who to send it to just so that the envelop does not get lost in the piles of mail.
I hope this helps!
i wish you and your daughter all the luck in the world.
Modeling is a tough job, but very rewarding if done correctly.
In my book, “This Year’s Model” I give “A-List advice: in the back of the book. every girl(and her mother) who wants to be a model should read this list!
best always,

Hi Ken,
I must say, i got mixed reviews! but i wanted to do something that was a bit daring and controversial to bring attention to the RAW way of life.
Playboy really supported that!
So thank you for your comment! It is really nice to hear from someone who enjoyed the spread.
all the best,

I checked The Raw 50 out of the library, and it mentioned that we could get products from your site…however, your site (www.carolalt.com) doesn’t have raw food products.
Thank you.

Sharon,
i have answered this question over and over.
It is impossible for me to compete with sites that sell raw food for a living. I wrote the book and did have a site to buy stuff, but other people just do it better.
look at:
rawvolution.com
livelive.com
good stuff from mom and me(not sure of the actual site name)
oneluckyduck.com
and naturesfirstlaw.com—for starters…..
they do a great job!
hope this helps?

I just purchased your book The Raw 50. There are a lot of great recipes and tips in this book. I have a question on one of your recipes.”Easy as Pie” Cool Lemon Cream Pie on page 117. The ingredient list doesn’t include cashews but in the directions the first ingredient that it says to combine is cashews along with almonds, dates and carob. If the recipe does include cashews please tell me the amount I should use.
Please let me know if there are any other recipe revisions that I should be aware of in this book. Thank you

Hi Katie!
i am not aware of any other type-o problems in the book. I have proof-read this book until i am blue in the face and still things escape…..
if the directions say cashews but the ingredient list does not include cashews, i would default to the directions.
I will write to Danny and get the actual amount.(I got a lot of recipes from my favorite chefs)
i am sorry this took so long, but i did not see this secton of my site. i am constantly answering questions and the webmaster did not tell me that this section went unanswered…..
please forgive me this error and i will write an email asap–i am in russia so i hope i can get an answer soon!

Hi Katie!!
Oh my gosh, i have been looking for this email for days!
(told you i am so bad at answering the technical stuff!)
but i got an answer on your “cashew” question:
Christopher from Live Live says:
‘I would think that you mix cashews and almonds in roughly equal proportions but if you want a bit more creamy texture, then use more cashews than almond, 3:1 should work.’
thank you Christopher and thank you Katie for pointing out the problem!

Thank You..!! I’ve been waiting so long for a “natural” skin care line..It was like it didn’t exist..I would go to cosmetic counters and explain to the consultant what ingredients I was looking to avoid in a product, and most of them didn’t even know about these harmful ingredients..I was surprised and disappointed that these professionals didn’t have a clue..?? I then emailed my local shopping network and explained the need for a “all natural product”, and not long after, along came RAW…at a very reasonable price..Finally…!!!
Thank you again Carol..I feel you’ve accomplished exactly what I wish I could have..I’m glad you had the resources to give us what we know is best for our skin, our wellness and our right to harmless products..!!!!!!
ps..I actually told my dr’s intern that I would not use vaseline “petrolium jelly” for my daughter’s dry cheeks..I said, “it’s petrolium”..!! and his response was that we have been using it for years..???? and.???????
Thank you Carol
Cheryl..

Hi Cheryl,
I had to laugh, not because it is funny, but because it is OH SO TRUE.
no one has a clue as to how harmful the ingredients can be in skin care (food, too, by the way–which is why i eat RAW!)
even doctors are clueless.
but, i thank my partner Steven, it was his idea. it is a long journey, for sure. as even consumers have no idea what they should avoid. and most people just decide that it is better “not to know.”
but we are slowly educating as we go along.
I hope you get the same GREAT results as my family and friends, and the models for my line are getting……
wishing you great health!
(both for you and your daughter–she is so lucky to have a mom who is so AWARE!)

Hi Kevin,
People cannot believe it when i tell them that i have not seen my movies either. I find it very difficult to watch myself. I much rather just “act” freely without thinking: “oh in that movie this angle of my face wasn’t good…..”
as you are an actor, you know what i mean!!
i am glad, in any case, that you are well. I do not have a copy of Chantilly Express or i would forward it to you…..

Hello Carol,
I have always been a big fan of yours. My daughter is very interested in modeling. We hear all the time how “beautiful” she is from others. She just turned 11 yrs of age, and is 5′5″ tall.
We just signed her up through John Casablanca modeling agency, and was looking for any advise. I have heard many negative things about agencies and just wondering what your thoughts are on agencies and how do we get a “scout” to evaluate if our daughter has potential in the modeling world?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
You are truly amazing, and can not wait to read your new book.
Thanks,
Denine

Denine,
Never fully trust anyone with your most precious possession!
that is the best thing i can tell you!
agencies are in it to make money-period. it is not about your daughter. so you need to protect her at all costs.
The only way to know if your daughter has potential is if the agency is actually sending her out. if they are not, then the are not backing her, in my opinion.
if they ask for more photos, it can be a scam as they recommend photographers and then get kick backs.
this is all in a nut shell. i wrote my books: This Year’s model and Model Inc. to teach mothers and daughters in an entertaining way what the modeling industry is ’somewhat’ like.
it is hard and can be cruel. it can also be the best thing that has ever happened to her.
Just, again, protect her at all costs.
hope this helps.

Hi Carol,
I have been trying to be Raw for the past year in a half, I still feel like a beginner, is there anything you can suggest to me?
The one place that i always have lunch in is Raw -Q —> Quintessence… That the best raw restaurant i have ever been too. I love it there , i recommend for you to check it out as well you’ll like it a lot.
Would you know of any Course’s i can take, or people i can meet or and consult with regarding raw food.
I think that this is the only way to eat, to feel great, look good and have so much energy.
I have to admit that i still can’t give up Sashimi – Salmon. And Egg white since thats the only sources of Protein that works for me so for now.
What would you suggest
Jeff.Chicareli@yahoo.com
Thank You
Jeff

Hi jeff.
First of all, I love Quintessence! i eat there a lot.
Danny (the owner)generously gave me many recipes for my book, in fact!
So, you have the best resource for RAW in NYC right where you eat! Danny and Christopher at Livelive–the store next to Quintessence are the Premier Raw food chefs and they give
classes, too!
by the way, i am NOT Vegan so i eat sashimi-it is RAW.
so why do you feel the need to give it up?
in my book eating in the raw, i talk about ‘cheats’ in weaning yourslef off of certain foods.
so if you want to ultimately become VEGAN RAW then
perhaps look at your sashimi as your ‘cheat”
Finally, RAW veggies is a protein as is any RAW legume.
you are getting a lot of Protein from many sources if you
eat RAW. so if your only concern is getting enough protein,
then worry not-eggs whites don’t compare to Chickpeas or lentils that have been germinated! and if you eat at Quintessence
then you get a lot of RAW and a lot of Protein.
cheers!

Hi Carol,
I must say that I totally respect you as a woman and as a person…. I have turned a new leaf in life and I am going for my dreams. I have shed 102 pounds and feel great. I always wanted to land a makeup contract but never had the self esteem to even try. I just turned 40 in June and I want to give it a shot. I also want to act so I am taking classes and I also want to be a talk show host so I am planning to start one on public access television. With all that being said, i guess i am looking for encouragement from someone who embodies gorgeous, successful and down to earth at over 40. I would love your opinion on how to tackle these. Also, I have tried totally raw several times, and it gets challenging when i crave something crunchy like a cracker. I dont seem to do well on grains period raw or cooked.
I forgot to mention to you my daughter is recovering nicely from autism. I attribute her recovery to a healthy diet, lots of prayer and tenacity to her progress. Heres a link to her story.

Hi Monique,
first of all, my i say, “Cudos to you” for putting your child on a
healthy diet to combat Autism!
secondly, i wanted to tellyou about Babe Ruth.
why babe Ruth? did you know that The Babe struck out
more than he hit home runs? but what is he remembered
for? HOMERUNS!
He said, “I swing at everything.”
the point being, that this is a tough business-at any age.
and you may be turned down a bunch of times. But, that does not matter! what matters is the one, “YES.”
because one “yes” can change your life. I try to remember this
whenever i get down and frustrated with this business.
i cannot tell you how many ideas i have had that i just could
not sell. But i Prefer to remember, and the public remembers, only my homeruns.
So, what does this mean to you? always keep your chin up.
For you may hear a thousand no’s but that one Yes is really
what you are working for.
I wish you all the luck and health in the world.
Best always,
ca
